NCR To Spinoff Teradata
NCR is spinning off its enterprise data warehousing (EDW) product line Teradata. The transition is expected to complete sometime in the next six to 12 months. Teradata revenues totaled nearly $1.5 billion in 2005 with an operating margin of 21% and considered a strong market player in data warehousing and analytic infrastructure for retailers, consumer products manufacturers and financial services firms.
After the transition, Teradata will be led by current senior vice president Mike Koehler, a company veteran of more than 30 years.
AMR Research provided some alternatives on what could happen to Teradata after spinoff. SAP or IBM or Oracle (ORCL) acquires Teradata. Alternatively, private equity like Golden Gate Capital (portfolio companies include Infor Global Solutions and Ecometry), Francisco Partners (Attachmate, RedPrairie, and GXS), Thoma Cressey Partners (JDA and Made2Manage), or Bain Capital might consider Teradata.
