Toyota Sales in U.S. Increase 17% and Honda Sales Advance 21% in May

Toyota and Honda gain big in May auto sales as Detroit big-three sink further. Overall, the US light vehicle sales were down from 16.74 million in April to 16.1 million seasonally adjusted annual rate in May, according to Autodata, corp.

   

 

May 2006 US auto sales summary:

 

  • Toyota's overall sales were up 17 percent and car sales were up nearly 25 percent
  • Honda's car sales shot up 21 percent 
  • Nissan Motor Co. sales were down 7 percent 
  • General Motors Corp. sales were down 12 percent for the month and car sales fell nearly 16 percent
  • Ford Motor Co. sales were down 2 percent and SUV sales were down 21 percent
  • DimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group sales were down nearly 11 percent and truck and SUV sales fell 14 percent
