Worldwide plasma TV shipments rose 87% year-over-year to 1.7 million units in the first quarter of 2006, according to DisplaySearch
  • Plasma TV revenues rose 41% Y/Y to $4.0 billion.
  • Plasma TV revenue share of the market rose to 19% while unit share stands at 3.9%.
  • Panasonic led with a 22% share, followed by LGE (15.4), Samsung (14.4), Philips (13.3%), and Hitachi (7.3%).
  • Vizio was the fastest growing brand, rising to #7 worldwide on over a 150% Q/Q increase.
  • North America‚Äôs plasma TV shipments rose 85% Y/Y, at 32% share of the global plasma TV market.

LCD and Plasma TV sets are expected to account for 20% of the 190 million TV sets sold world-wide in 2006. The flat-panel sets are expected to outsell conventional models by 2009.
