| Curbside
takeout has become one of the fastest growing areas of the
$550 billion restaurant industry in the United States. Takeout
sales at casual dining chains have grown about 10% annually over
the last three years - double the annual rate of their overall
growth, according to Technomic, a restaurant consulting firm.
Technomic estimates that some 20% of the growth in curbside and
takeout has comes at the expense of in-restaurant dining.
In 2005, only 58% of all main
dinner dishes were made from scratch, a steady drop from 65% in
1995, according to NPD.
