US Information Sector Revenues Fell 3.8% in 1Q to Under $250 Billion

U.S. information sector revenue for the first calendar quarter of 2006 was $249.2 billion, a decrease of 3.8% from the fourth quarter of 2005 and up 4.4% from the first quarter of 2005, according to the Department of Commerce‚Äôs estimates. 

  • Software publishers revenue was  $31.1 billion, a decrease of 6.7% from the fourth quarter of 2005, but up 11.2% from the first quarter of 2005.
  • The telecommunications industry estimate was $91.7 billion, up 2.1% from the first quarter of 2005. 
  • The publishing subsector estimate was $68.2 billion, a decrease of 7.9% from the fourth quarter of 2005 and up 6.3% from the first quarter of 2005.
  • The estimate of U.S. professional, scientific, and technical services revenue for the first quarter of 2006, was $275.9 billion, up 10.0% from the first quarter of 2005.
