DSL Broadband Will Overtake Cable in the US by 2010

JupiterResearch predicts that 79 million US  households and 110 million households in Western Europe will have broadband access by 2011.

In the US DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) will overtake cable modems in market share by 2010, according to JupiterResearch. In Western Europe DSL will retain its dominant position over cable modems and by 2011, 88.9 million out of the 110 million total broadband households will be utilizing DSL.

At the end of 2005, 36% of US households connected to the Internet via broadband, and is expected to experience a strong increase up to 65% by 2011. The US market will continue to lag behind many Western European countries, where far lower broadband prices will drive higher penetration rates. The average European household will generate 54% less broadband access revenue in 2011 compared with 2005.
