from 2004 revenue, according to Gartner, Inc. The market was relatively
evenly split between the enterprise and consumer segments, with the
enterprise segment at a 51.5% market share and the consumer segment with
48.5% of the market in 2005. |

The antivirus software market is a mature market with the top three vendors accounting for 86% of the market in 2005. Symantec continued to dominate the market with a 53.6% market share. McAfee and Trend Micro followed with 18.8% and 13.8% market share, respectively. Although Panda Software only garnered 3.2 percent of the market in 2005, its strong presence in the European small and midsize business (SMB) market helped push it to 23.9%. |
