Q2 Global LCD Monitor Market Rises 3% to 29.8 million units; Dell leads

The desktop LCD monitor market rose slightly higher in Q2'06 than
forecast, jumping 3.1% to 29.8M units shipped worldwide, reports
DisplaySearch. Significant shipment growth into Latin America, up
37% Q/Q, and Greater China, up 26% Q/Q, along with growth in the market
for wide desktop displays, especially in China, helped to boost shipments
above the prior forecast of 29.6M units. |

The market for LCD monitors has been increasing 26.1% Y/Y. Most of the Q2'06 growth came from wider and larger desktop displays. While the market for was dominated by 17" SXGA products with a 52.7% share, this was down 3% from Q1'06, losing ground to larger 19" SXGA and 19"Wide displays, which enjoyed sequential growth rates of 8% and 147%, respectively. WW penetration rates for wide displays of all sizes rose from 4.5% in Q1'06 to 7.6% in Q2'06. |

On a WW basis, Dell extended its leading market share position from
19.0% in Q1'06 to 20.1% in Q2'06. Samsung retained the WW #2
position despite seeing a sequential decline of 6.3% in unit volume
shipments. ViewSonic climbed up from the #7 WW position in Q1'06
into the WW top five in Q2'06 with a sequential growth of 46% in unit
volume shipments. Lenovo was not quite in the top five, but
noteworthy due to its significant sequential growth rate of 41% due to the
hot China market where it increased its shipments 77% for the quarter.
