PC Shipments to Hit 230 Million Units This Year - Gartner, IDC Report
Worldwide
PC shipments are on pace to total 233.7 million
units in 2006, a 10.5% increase from 2005,
however worldwide PC revenue is expected to reach $198.3 billion, a 2.5%
decline, according to a preliminary forecast by Gartner,
Inc.
Total PC shipments worldwide exceeded 52 million units and growth was 9.8% for the second quarter, 0.6% behind expectations, according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. Despite the slower second quarter, IDC expects the second half of 2006 to be strong enough to maintain 10.5% growth for the year, reaching 229.7 million.
PC Manufacturers to Face Increased Competition from Consumer Electronics This Holiday Season, says Gartner. The battle between PCs and LCD TVs in particular is likely to be especially intense over the holiday season given that LCD TVs will almost certainly be backed by aggressive holiday marketing and even lower prices.
