Local online advertising to grow 31% in 2007 to $7.7 billion

Local online advertising will grow 31% in 2007, hitting $7.7 billion, according to Borrell Associates. This market is projected to reach $9.3 billion by 2010.

Local paid search, already approaching $1 billion this year, will mushroom by 86% in 2007, to $1.8 billion. Local e-mail advertising will grow to $233 million, a 54% increase. Borrell's annual budgeting report details which ad categories are growing fastest, and offers ad-spending projections for 210 local markets. Real estate and automotive combined comprise slightly more than one-third of all local online advertising.

About half of the local Web sites were adding to their sales forces this year, increasing the online-only sales people by about 37%. Some of the largest local Web sites now have three to four dozen salespeople dedicated to online sales.
