Worldwide Digital Home Market Growing at 32% to Hit $159B This Year

Worldwide consumer spending will increase 32% on digital home devices to reach $159 billion in 2006, according to Strategy Analytics research. 

Europe, as the world's largest market, will grow by 38% to hit revenues of $51.5 billion. In the US, revenues will grow by 28% to reach $49.1 Billion.

Average Fortune 1000 Computer Storage Capacity Doubling Every 10 Months

The average installed storage capacity in Fortune 1000 organizations has jumped from 198 TB in early 2005 to 680 TB in October 2006, according to TheInfoPro (TIP)'s Wave 8 Storage Networking Fortune 1000 report. The research reveals that average Fortune 1000 installed storage capacity has doubled every 10 months for the last four waves of its research.

HP Reclaims the No.1 Position on Worldwide PC Shipments, reports Gartner

Worldwide PC shipments increased 6.7% year-over-year to 59.1 million units in the third quarter of 2006, according to preliminary results by Gartner. The U.S. PC market declined 2% in year-over-year shipments to 15.9 million units, first decline in US shipments since the second quarter of 2002.

Mobile advertising to hit US$11.35B; Will Google stay No.1 in Mobile Search?

Worldwide spend on mobile advertising will rise to US$11.35 billion by 2011, up from $871 million this year, according to Informa Telecoms & Media report "Mobile Advertising Services: generating revenue through subsidised content".  In 2007, mobile advertising spend will more than double from 2006 levels to over US$1.5bn. 

Infroma forecasts that search-related mobile ad revenue will climb to $1.5 billion in 2011, up from just $3 million this year.

comScore September Top 50 Web Rankings - TV, Sports & News Sites Gain

American consumers were particularly in tune to television, sports, and news Web sites in September as the Fall TV season premiered, football season kicked off, Suri Cruise was introduced to the world, and September 11th was remembered, according to the comScore Media Metrix monthly analysis of U.S. consumer activity at top online properties and categories for September 2006.  

  • Yahoo remains No.1 with almost 130 million unique visitors
  • Craigslist comes in at No.50 with 13.8 million uniques visitors
  • Online Gambling was the top gaining category, posting a 17% gain versus August.

Housing starts posted an unexpected 5.9% increase in September

The Commerce Department reported that housing starts rose by 5.9% in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.772 million units. It was the first increase after three consecutive monthly declines. Single-family housing starts in rose by 4.3% in September to an annual rate of 1.426 million units.

Consumer prices fall by largest amount in 10 months; Core Inflation Edges Up

The Labor Department reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell 0.5% in September, compared to the 0.2% increase in August. It was the biggest decline since a 0.7% fall in November, 2005, driven by a large 7.2% drop in energy prices. Gasoline prices fell by 13.5% last month, the biggest one-month decline since a drop of 16.1% last November. Core inflation (core CPI) - which excludes energy and food - edged up by 0.2%.

WSJ By The Numbers - Top 10 for Oct.18

A compendium of revealing stats and the key leading economic indicators and business metrics based on today's Wall Street Journal article and reports:

Yahoo Faces Pressure From Rivals In Its Search for Online Ad Dollars: Unique U.S. users of MySpace site climbed 170% in September from a year earlier, while Google's users rose 25%, according to research firm NetRatings Inc. Yahoo's users rose only 6%, though it remains the top U.S. brand on the Web in terms of users, with its 106 million users in September. 

MySpace had 47 million users, while Google had 99 million. eMarketer predicts Google will command 25% of U.S. online-ad revenue this year, compared with 18% for Yahoo. Both had a roughly 19% market share last year, according to the research firm.

Businesses plan to spend $2,000 per every living person in U.S. on marketing

U.S. businesses will be spending nearly $615 billion on marketing this year, according to consulting firm Blackfriars Communications. This forecast is down $385 billion from 2005. In Blackfriars' second annual sizing of the U.S. marketing market, it found that 2006 marketing spending dropped to 4.7% of revenue this year from 8.9% last year. The manufacturing industry again spent the most on marketing in 2006 with spending of $59 billion.
