Making simple changes to creative elements of email messages can boost click rates by 50% or more, according to new research conducted by Silverpop. Email subject line, ratio of images to text, and the email layout style are the key creative elements evaluated in this study. 
  • BtoB emails with the company or brand name in the subject line experienced an average open rate of 32%, compared to just 20% for messages without branded subject lines. 
  • While all-text BtoC messages generated a 4.7% click rate on average, those that were mostly image-oriented achieved a 7.1% average click rate.

6.98 billion online video streams by 100 million U.S. Internet users in August

Fox Interactive, which includes MySpace.com, led the comScore August U.S. Video Metrix Rankings with 20.1% share of the market at 1.4 billion streams during the month.  Yahoo! Sites ranked second in video streams initiated with 823 million (11.8%), followed by YouTube.com with 688 million (9.9%).

6.98 billion video streams were initiated by U.S. Internet users in August. The U.S streaming audience increased 4% from July to reach 110.3 million streamers in August, representing about 64% of the total U.S. Internet audience.

US medium businesses push for CRM solutions - $1 billion this year

US medium businesses (100-999 employees) will spend over $1 billion this year on customer relationship management (CRM) solutions, as they increasingly recognize the need to improve and extend their CRM capabilities, according to a new report, “Mid-Market CRM: Vendor Strategies for a New Frontier” from AMI Partners. The US medium business market is still under-penetrated in terms of CRM adoption, with just 35% of these businesses currently using CRM solutions. However, their spending on CRM is set to grow at a 9% CAGR over the next five years.

Global Flat Panel Displays to Exceed $84B Revenue and 3.6B Panels in 2006

Flat panel display (FPD) revenues for all applications and technology are expected to rise 13% in 2006 to $84B, according to DisplaySearch's Q3’06 issue of its Quarterly Worldwide FPD Forecast Report. On a unit basis, FPDs are expected to rise 12% to 3.6 billion panels which will deliver 42.8 million square meters of viewable area, enough to cover 5,711 soccer fields.

3Q Cell Phone Shipments Jump 21%, May Reach 1 Billion in 2006

Worldwide cell phone shipments rose 21% in the third quarter to 255 million, putting the industry within reach of exceeding 1 billion mobile phones worldwide this year, according to IDC report today (via AP). The top five cell phone vendors all reported record results in the July-September period:

WSJ By The Numbers - Top 10 for Oct.19

A compendium of revealing stats and the key leading economic indicators and business metrics based on today's Wall Street Journal article and reports:

Reality TV -  NBC Universal to Slash Costs In News, Prime-Time Programs: NBC Universal expects to post operating profit of $3 billion in 2006 on revenue of $16.5 billion. The company expects revenue from digital initiatives such as new Internet offerings will exceed $1 billion by 2009, up from $400 million this year. 

NBC Universal, which runs the No. 1-rated network news operation, currently spends about $1.5 billion annually on news gathering. By comparison, NBC's new hit series "Heroes"  costs $2.7 million an episode. "Friday Night Lights," a primetime drama, costs $2.6 million an episode.  The game show  "Deal or No Deal" costs $1.1 million an episode.
