US eLearning Market Tops $10 Billion in 2006

The current market for self-paced eLearning products and services in the US across all the buying segments topped $10 billion in 2006 according to a new research report from Ambient Insight. 

The market for e-Learning will grow by 30.8% over the forecast period from 2006 to 2011. The revenues for outsourced services are growing by 80.2% on strong demand for content targeted to specific sectors.

Biofuels Investment Hits $512 Million in 3Q, Total Cleantech Tops $2.3B YTD

North American venture capital investing in the cleantech category realized its 9th consecutive quarter of growth with a record $933 million invested in Q3 2006, according to Cleantech Venture Network. The energy segment led the way with $837 million, a 41% increase over the $594 million invested in Q2 2006.

Mobile Messaging and Display Ads will Grow to $2.9 billion in 2011

Total advertiser spend on mobile messaging and display ads will grow from $1.4 billion in 2006 to $2.9 billion in 2011, according to JupiterResearch's US Mobile Marketing Forecast, 2006 to 2011. With a 76% penetration rate in the US, cell phones offer marketers a highly personalized platform for targeting consumers. 

Online Video Advertising Spending will Total $2.35 billion by 2010

As online video becomes more popular, publishers and advertiser will look for every opportunity for online video advertising. The Yankee Group estimates that online video advertising will grow 200% in 2006 and nearly 117% in 2007 before growth levels off, reports eMarketer. Online video advertising spending is expected to total $2.35 billion by 2010, up from $385 million in 2006, according to eMarketer.

Global Software Market and the Software 500

Revenue at the Software Magazine's "2006 Software 500" declined 1% to $380.8 billion worldwide for 2005 from the previous year's total revenue of $383.3 billion. Total employees at the 2006 Software 500 companies declined just under 5% to 2,539,872 at the end of 2005.

Forrester Research estimates the global commercial software market at $207 billion in 2005, with the top four vendors accounting for about 34% of the revenue.

Existing Home Sales Fell 1.9% in September; New Home Starts Increased 5.9%

Existing home sales fell by 1.9% in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 6.18 million units, and were 14.2% below the 7.2 million pace in September 2005, the slowest pace since January 2004, according to The National Association of Realtors. 

The inventory of unsold homes fell for a second straight month, decreasing 2.4%, to 3.75 million unsold homes at the end of September, a 7.3 months supply at the September sales pace.

WSJ By The Numbers - Top 10 for Oct.25

Cable Horror? Comcast Hopes So: Comcast and other major cable operators are expected to have 8 million phone subscribers by the end of the year, compared with fewer than 100,000 TV subscribers for major phone companies. 

Currently, Comcast has just fewer than 2 million phone customers, less than 5% of the 40 million or so homes reached by its networks. 88 million households are expected to be subscribing to the high-speed Internet service by the end of 2010, up from about 53 million today, according to Leichtman Research Group. Cable operators currently are getting about 45% of the new customers.
