Online Travel Spending To Reach $128 Billion in 2011, JupiterResearch

Annual online travel spending is expected to reach $128 billion in the United States by 2011 from $85 billion in 2006, according to a new report by JupiterResearch, "US Travel Forecast, 2006 to 2011". Online travel spending will account for 38% of total travel revenue in 2011

2007 Online Ad Budgets Expected 42% Up; Major Shift from TV to Online

Most leading ad executives expect a significant portion of broadcast and cable TV ad dollars to shift to online video by 2010, with 33% predicting that switch will be between 10% and 19%, according to a study conducted for the American Advertising Federation (AAF).

40% Hi-Tech Startups Started by Immigrant Entrepreneurs; $500B in Market Cap

Over the past 15 years, immigrants have started 1 in 4 or 25% of U.S. venture-backed public companies. Within the high technology sector, that percentage rises to 40%. The aggregate market capitalization of these companies, which includes Intel, Google, Yahoo!, Sun Microsystems and eBay, exceeds $500 billion, according to a study (pdf) "American Made: The Impact of Immigrant Entrepreneurs and Professionals on U.S. Competitiveness", commissioned by the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). Among today's private, venture-backed start-up companies in the U.S., 47% have immigrant founders or co-founders.

About 1% Web Deemed Pornographic; Filters More Than 90% Effective

About 1% of Web sites indexed by Google and Microsoft are sexually explicit, according to a U.S. government-commissioned study. The study concludes that the strictest filter tested, AOL's Mature Teen, blocked 91% of the sexually explicit Web sites in indexes maintained by Google and Microsoft's MSN. (AP report)

What's on the Agenda For Student Aid: Average total tuition and fees at four-year private colleges increased 5.9% to $22,218 in the current academic year. The average undergraduate leaves school more than $20,000 in debt, compared with about $16,000 in 1999-2000, according to an analysis of the Education Department's National Postsecondary Student Aid study. In the last academic year, private student lending amounted to about $17 billion in new loans, up more than three times since 2001-02. Federal student loans originated in the 2005-2006 academic year totaled $69 billion
