Software 500: $380.8 billion in Revenues at Top Software and Services Companies
The
top 500 software and services companies worldwide generated $380.8 billion
in sales in 2005, a decline of just under 1% from the 2004 revenues of
$383.3 billion, according to Software Magazine's 2006 Software
500 revenue rankings. The top 500 companies employed 2.54 million at
the end of 2005, a decline of just under 5 % from 2.66 million at the end
of 2004.
Employee growth was the strongest at information security sector (40%), human resource management systems (39 %), healthcare (23 %), content management (22 %) and customer relationship management CRM (17 %).
IBM again took the No.1 position in the Software 500 list with a 3% increase in software and services revenue to $63.1 billion, while Microsoft was No.2 with 7.6% growth to $36.5 billion in software and services revenue, followed by EDS, HP, Accenture, and Computer Sciences Corp.(CSC).
India's Wipro at No. 28 with 117% growth and Infosys at No. 38, with a 50 % growth rate from the previous survey year are the fastest growing companies in the $2 billion plus category.
Some 231 of the Software 500 companies grew up to 24 %, while only 17 % or 84 companies reported declining revenue, 8 fewer than last year.
