Durable Goods Drop Most in 6 Years; Consumer Confidence Fell

New orders for manufactured durable goods in October decreased $19.0 billion or 8.3% to $210 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This is the largest drop in more than six years. This followed two consecutive monthly increases, including an 8.7% September increase.

Modest 0.5% Gain in Existing Home Sales; Median Price Dropped at Record Y/Y Level

Total existing-home sales rose a modest 0.5% in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate1 of 6.24 million units from an upwardly revised pace of 6.21 million in September, but were 11.5% below the 7.05 million-unit level of October 2005, according to the National Association of Realtors.

All three sites had mobile-to-PC reach index scores above 120, pointing to significantly stronger reach among mobile Web users than among PC Web users), according to the inaugural results from the MobileWeb Metrix service, a joint offering from Telephia and comScore Networks.

Cyber Monday Traffic Hits Record 3.5 million Visitors/Min.; Sales to Reach $600M

Akamai Technologies said it tracked more traffic to online-commerce sites than on past Cyber Mondays. As of 2 p.m. yesterday, North American traffic to such sites had reached about 2.1 million visitors a minute, up 19% from last year's peak for North America. Global traffic reached 3.5 million visitors a minute, a 14% increase over last year's peak.

Despite the talk about how the democratizing web has opened a brave new long tail (coined by Wired Editor Chris Anderson) world for Internet ad dollars, the top 10 companies online accounted for 72% of all interactive ad revenue last year, up from 71% in 2004, according to Interactive Advertising Bureau's analysis of revenue by company size, reports AdAge in "The Short Tail: Big Players Still Dominate Online Ad Sales".

315 ETFs: Total assets in exchange-traded funds were up about 29% from the end of last year, according ICI. There were 315 ETFs in October, of which 228 tracked domestic stock indexes with assets of $268 billion; 81 ETFs tracked international equity indexes with assets of $95.4 billion; and six tracked bond indexes with assets of $19.9 billion.
