You Got M-Mail! Mobile E-Mail Usage Doubled in 6 Months

According to NPD’s Mobile Consumer Track, personal e-mail usage on mobile phones increased from 3% of mobile phone users in March 2006 to 6% in September 2006. Mobile e-mail has a long way to go before it rivals traditional PC-based e-mailing, but growing numbers of U.S. consumers have begun to test-drive e-mailing on-the-go.

Video Game Industry Sales Jump 34% in Nov. - NPD

Video game industry retail sales jumped 34% in November to $1.7 billion from $1.3 billion last November, according to data from the NPD Group. Total hardware sales soared 69% to $771 million on the launch of long-anticipated Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii.

US IT Spend Hits $761B Next Year; Global IT Spending to Surpass $2 trillion Mark - Forrester

Global purchases of IT goods and services will slow to 5% growth in 2007, reaching $1.55 trillion in sales according to a new report detailing worldwide technology spending and purchases by Forrester Research. US purchases of IT goods and services will also grow 5% in 2007, the slowest rate of growth since 2003. Forrester's forecast for US IT spending growth is up from the previous estimate of 2%.

Global Semiconductor Industry Hit $261 Billion in 2006 - Gartner

Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $261.4 billion in 2006, an 11.3% increase from 2005, according to preliminary results from Gartner. Intel remained the No. 1 vendor in 2006, even as its revenue declined 9.5%. This is the15th year that Intel has been the No. 1 semiconductor vendor.

Consumer Confidence Slips - U. Mich. Index & RBC CASH Index

Consumer Confidence: The University of Michigan's preliminary index of consumer sentiment fell to 90.2 from 92.1 in November. The gauge rose to 93.6 in October, the highest since July of last year, and has averaged 88.1 since monthly data were first compiled in 1978.

November Payrolls Jump 132,000; Unemployment Rate Up Slightly to 4.5% 

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 132,000 in November to 136.0 million and the unemployment rate edged up from 4.4% to 4.5%, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Over the year, the number of unemployed persons has declined from 7.6 million to 6.8 million while the unemployment rate has come down from 5.0%.
