U.S. retail and food services sales for November increased 1% from the previous month to $368.9 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Retail sales are up 5.6% from an year ago period in November 2005. Total sales for the September through November 2006 period were up 5.3% from the same period a year ago.

Since January 2006 the number of monthly iTunes transactions has
declined 58%, while the average size per purchase declined by 17%, leading to a
65% overall drop in monthly iTunes revenue, according
to Forrester Research survey among North American consumers.

Americans are
big spenders of entertainment content and services for
consumer electronics, but they show less enthusiasm for
purchasing mobile phone entertainment services, according
to an IDC survey. 72.5% of respondents did not use any
data services outside of messaging in the third quarter of 2006.

Text messages sent to and from mobile phones will more than double over
the next five years to 2.3 trillion messages by 2010, according
to a Gartner survey. Some 936
billion SMS (short message service) messages were transmitted in 2005.
Total revenues from text messaging is forecast to grow to $72.5 billion
in 2010 from $39.5 billion in 2005.

78% of U.S. active home Web users are connected via broadband at home
during the month of November, up 13 percentage points from the 65% of
active Web users a year ago, according
to Nielsen//NetRatings. Web sites for online gaming, instant messaging,
e-mail and social networking made the top 10 list when ranked by average
time per person among broadband users at home.
