term "Wikipedia" was cited in blogs nearly 29,000 times in
November 2006, up 54% from 2005. In addition, the use of highly indicative
phrases - "according to wikipedia" OR "wikipedia says"
OR "says wikipedia" - rose 200% versus last year, according
to Nielsen BuzzMetrics
There
were 56 U.S. venture-backed IPOs completed in 2006, raising $3.72 billion,
the most IPO activity and largest total raised since 2004. For
the year as a whole, there were 404 venture-backed M&As with total
deal value of $31.18 billion paid, according to the
Quarterly Liquidity Report from Dow Jones VentureOne. .

Warren Buffett’s historic $31 billion pledge to the Gates
Foundation made 2006 a banner year for US charitable giving, smashing
previous records by a huge margin, according to the Chronicle of
Philanthropy. A record 15 individuals pledged more than
$100 million each to
single institutions.

mobile phone users set a new national record for text messages, as they
sent 36 million SMSs for New Year's wishes between midnight and 1:00 am
(2300 GMT and 0000 GMT), through transmitters owned by cellular majors SFR
and France Telecom subsidiary Orange. (AFP reports).

study shows. Nearly 2 of 5 bosses don't keep their word and more than 25% of bosses
bad mouth those they supervise to co-workers, according to findings by a
Florida State University's College of Business study.
