Total U.S. Non-Travel E-Commerce Spending Jumped 24% to $102 billion in 2006: comScore

For the full year 2006, total online non-travel (retail) spending at U.S. sites increased 24% to reach $102.1 billion, marking an exceptional year for online retailers as e-commerce spending crossed $100 billion for the first time, according to comScore Networks. Online holiday e-commerce accounted for $24.6 billion, up 26% versus last year.

Music 2006 - Digital Track Sales Rose 65%; Album Sales Fell 4.9%: Nielsen SoundScan

Overall U.S. music sales, including album sales (CDs and digital albums) and single digital track sales, rose 19.4% to 1.19 billion units in 2006, according to music tracker Nielsen SoundScan. Digital track sales rose 65% to 581.9 million units, while digital album sales more than doubled to 33 million units d in 2006.

31% Price Decline to Slow DRAM Revenues Growth in 2007: iSuppli

The DRAM market will reach a milestone in 2007 as it achieves the second-highest annual revenue level in its history, at $36.95 billion, although at a much lower growth of 11.3% compared to to the whopping 33.6% jump in 2006, according to iSuppli. DRAM revenue in 2007 will be exceeded only by the $40.8 billion in 1995.

U.S. New Drug Approvals at 8 Year Low; R&D Spend Hits $40B

U.S. regulators approved 18 new drugs in 2006, close to an eight-year low, as the number of medicines recommended for sale in 2006 and 2005 dropped from the annual average of 26 drugs recorded in the previous six years, according to U.S. data.

Fewest U.S. Job Cuts In Six Years!; Planned Cuts Under a Million in 2006: Challenger Report

Planned job cuts in U.S. declined 22% in 2006 to 839,822, about 232,000 fewer than the 1,072,054 cuts in 2005, according to the job-cut report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc., the global outplacement consultancy.  It was the first time since 2000 that annual job-cut announcements came in under 1,000,000.
