VC and PE Funds Thrive, but Fund of Funds Slowdown in 2006

Fundraising by Fund of funds slumped 15% in 2006 as 77 funds raised some $20.8 billion, according to Thomson Financial (via PEHub.com). By comparison, 94 fund of funds raised $24.5 billion during 2005.

Record Financial Services M&A Deal Activity in 2006; $2.4T AUM Involved

Strategic merger and acquisition activity in 2006 reached record levels in global financial services sectors, with exceptionally strong activity in asset management, involving more than $2.4 trillion of assets under management (AUM) being acquired, according to Freeman & Co. Securities firms were involved in $89 billion of deals and private equity firms pumped in $30 billion in 96 financial services deals.

U.S. Consumer Electronics Revenue Will Surpass $155 Billion In 2007

Factory sales of consumer electronics in U.S. are projected to grow 7% to over $155 billion in 2007, according to the semi-annual industry forecast released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) on the eve of the 2007 International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow.

VC-Backed Exits in 2006: 335 M&A vs. 58 IPOs; 30% Companies Returned 10x

In U.S., 58 venture-backed IPOs raised $5.3 billion in 2006 and 335 M&A transactions generated a total disclosed value of $16.6 billion for the full year, according to Thomson Financial and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) report.

Digital Billboards Rising; Set to Take 15% Share by 2010: iSuppli

By 2010, 75,000 billboards, or 15% of total billboards in the U.S., will be digital displays, up from a mere 500 digital billboards in 2006, according to iSuppli.  Digital signage is another vehicle for advertisers to reach out to their customers in the $500 billion global advertising market.

Middle Managers Around the World Unsatisfied with Their Organizations: Accenture Survey

A survey of more than 1,400 middle managers in nine countries in North America, Europe and Asia found that, on average, just 39% of respondents said they were “extremely” or “very” satisfied with working at their current organizations, while 20% is specifically dissatisfied with his or her current organization, according to Accenture.

US Spent $1.99 trillion on Health Care in 2005, with Lowest Growth Since 1999

The U.S. health care spending increased 6.9% in 2005 to $1.988 trillion, or $6,697 per person, compared to 7.2% growth in 2004 and the lowest growth rate since 1999, according to a latest comprehensive study on health care spending by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
