VC and PE Funds Thrive, but Fund of Funds Slowdown in 2006

Fundraising by Fund of funds slumped 15% in 2006 as 77 funds raised some $20.8 billion, according to Thomson Financial (via PEHub.com). By comparison, 94 fund of funds raised $24.5 billion during 2005.  

PEHub.com reports that FoF Managers also face difficulties LPs at top-notch VCs. 

By contrast, US VC firms are st to raise most money in 2006 since 2001, having already raised $20B thru 3rd Quarter. 

Meanwhile, U.S. private equity firms continue to raise money at a breakneck pace, with $172.2 billion raised in 253 funds at the close of the third quarter of 2006 -- an increase of about 72% in capital from this point last year, according to Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst.
