Top 10 Super Bowl Ads;  Peak Traffic Down 62% from Last Year

Peak Web traffic during the game was down more than 62% this Super Bowl compared with last year for 21 of the total 35 marketers in the game, according to Akamai Technologies. Last year, viewership during the game peaked at about 750,000 visitors a minute, according to Akamai, but this year's peak was just 282,000 a minute.

However, traffic to Super Bowl advertisers' websites increased dramatically during and after the game, according to internet infrastructure provider Akamai's Net Usage Index for Advertising, reports MarketingVOX.

Traffic to the sites, which averaged about 80,000 visitors per minute in the 2-3 weeks before the game, doubled to 160,000 throughout the majority of the game, with traffic jumping to 227,957 during the preparation for the Halftime show.

TV audience for this year's game averaged more than 93 million viewers on Sunday, making it the second most-watched Super Bowl and third most-watched U.S. telecast ever, Nielsen Media Research reported.

The 1996 Dallas Cowboys' victory over Pittsburgh posted a bigger TV audience, averaging 94.8 million viewers to rank as the second most-watched U.S. TV broadcast in history.

The February 1983 finale to the long-running CBS sitcom "M*A*S*H" still ranks as the most watched American telecast ever, averaging nearly 106 million viewers.

About 20 advertisers paid as much as $2.6 million for a 30-second commercial spot during Sunday's game. Nielsen estimates that nearly 140 million viewers tuned in to all or part of Super Bowl XLI
