Another Record Year for Tech Mergers in 2006: Over $600 billion

Tech mergers worldwide  are closing in on another record year as the total value of announced tech and telecom deals (excluding debt) increased 4.9% to $611.89 billion in 2006, according to Dealogic, reports WSJ. Interestingly, AT&T has been at the top of the Tech M&A deals over the last three years.

Global M&A at All Time High in 2006 : $3.7 trillion 

Mergers and acquisitions worldwide have jumped 30% in 2006 to hit a all time record $3.7 trillion this year so far, surpassing the 2000 high of $3.4 trillion, according to data released by Thomson Financial today.

Global M&A Deals Hit All-Time High of $3.46B; U.S. Slides to No.2

The total value of announced M&A activity worldwide reached $3.46 trillion for the year to date period, exceeding the $3.33 trillion for all announced mergers and acquisitions deals in 2000, according to Dealogic.  However the number of deals announced so far this year are 28,312, lower than the 31,019 for all of 2000. 

Private equity firms accounted for 22% of total global M&A volume in the first nine months of the year, hitting a new record of $570.1 billion in deals.

In the overall North American market, dealmakers have announced 2,852 deals and US$297.6 billion in aggregate deal value, compared to the 2005 quarterly averages of 3,216 deal announcements and US$280.2 billion in aggregate deal value, according to a report from global M&A tracker FactSet Mergerstat.

In U.S. market, there have been 2,422 deals announced along with US$283 billion in total deal value, compared to the 2005 quarterly averages of 2,724 deal announcements and US$257.3 in aggregate deal value.

GE in India, for India: US$8 Billion in Revenues and US$8 Billion in Assets in India by 2010

GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt announced a US$250 million investment in infrastructure and healthcare projects in India and said that GE intends to dramatically expand its industrial and financial presence in the country. GE India is targeting $8 billion in revenues and $8 billion in assets in India by 2010. GE India had revenues of about $1.1 billion in 2005.

GE is expecting 60 percent of its revenue to come from outside the United States within a decade, particularly from China and India. GE expected sales in China to double to $10 billion by 2010.
