Video Game Addiction: 81% of American Youth Play; 8.5% are Addicted

Reports from around the world suggest that gaming addiction is real and on the rise. With nearly 8 in 10 American youth (81%) playing video games at least one time per month, including 94% of all boys playing, this certainly raises concerns about video game addiction.

PMP/MP3 Player Market to Double from 2005 to 2010 to Hit 270 million

Portable Media Players (PMP)/MP3 players represent one of the fastest-growing segments of the consumer electronics industry today, with unit shipments expected to more than double between 2005 and 2011, according to iSuppli Corp. Global PMP/MP3 factory revenue will rise to $21.5 billion by 2011, expanding at a CAGR of 7.4% from $14 billion in 2005. PMP/MP3 revenue this year will rise to $20.6 billion, up 14.4% from $18 billion in 2006.

Consumer Electronics Shipments to hit 3 billion Units by 2010: Study

Strong consumer electronics (CE) sales are expected to continue for several years, with total shipments increasing from 2.1 billion units in 2006 to 3 billion units in 2010, according to In-Stat, the high-tech market research firm.

Macua Tops Las Vegas; Gaming Revenue Set to Double to $11.5B by 2010

Macau, a city of 450,000 , the former Portuguese colony returned to China in 1999, has overtaken Las Vegas as the world's No. 1 gambling market with $6.485 billion gaming revenue from January through November 2006, compared to Las Vegas' $6.079 billion.

23.5 million US Mobile Subscribers Have Music-Capable Phones: Telephia

23.5 million mobile subscribers in the U.S. have phones with integrated music players, up five times from the same period in 2005 and nearly 20% of the new phones purchased in Q3 2006 were music capable, according to Telephia.

Digital Music Sales Worldwide Doubled in 2006 to $2 billion

Global digital music sales almost doubled in 2006 to $2 billion, or about 10% of all music sales, from 5.5 % in 2005, according to The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).  The report expected digital sales to account for almost 25% of all sales worldwide by 2010.

PS3 Shipments Reach 2 million; Likely to Miss 6 million Target by March

Sony PS3 Shipments:
US Shipments, Jan'07: 1 mil.
Japan Shipments, Jan'07: 1 mil.
Global target by Mar'07: 6 mil.
Sony's PlayStation 3 shipments reached 2 million in about two months after the November launch, compared with its original target to hit the figure by the end of December, as PS3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii for the top spot in the $30 billion game market's console war.

Wii Sales Beat PS3 in the $30B Video-game Wars in December: NPD Group

Nintendo sold 604,200 of its new Wii video game consoles in the United States in December, beating Sony, which sold 490,700 units of its new PlayStation 3, according to retail sales on the  seventh-generation video-game systems by market-research firm NPD.
