Gartner: Worldwide Security Software Market to Reach $9.1 billion in 2007

Worldwide security software revenue is expected to increase 10.7% to reach $9.1 billion in 2007, compared to $8.2 billion in 2006, driven by continued growth in the antivirus software market, according to Gartner.

IT Security Spending by U.S. Companies to Hit $61 billion in 2006

IT departments in U.S. enterprises will spend some $61 billion on security in 2006, representing 7.3% of total IT spending in the U.S., according to a new report from Info-Tech Research Group. Acquisition of new security technologies and services will account for $21 - $27 billion, while the balance goes to operations and staffing costs.

Phishing Emails Increased 3 Fold Last Week. China No.1 Generator, Jumping from 10th Place.

Phishing emails increased from 0.4% of total spam 2.2% during the last week, the highest level of phishing emails since July 2006, according to Marshal’s Threat Research and Content Engineering (TRACE). The spike represents a tripling of the average phishing email rates over the last six months. China is now the number one generator of phishing emails in the world, jumping from 10th position last week.

46% of US online consumers purchased software online; Only 38% think buying s/w online is safe. 

One in five U.S. consumers who have purchased software via online auction shopping over the past 12 months has experienced some kind of problem, according to a new survey conducted by Forrester Research on behalf of the Business Software Alliance (BSA).  While 46% of US online consumers have purchased software online in the past 12 months, only 38% of US online consumers think that buying software online is safe.

Spam, Virus, & Phishing Threat Trends - September 2006

Spam levels in September decreased 0.1% in from August to 64.4% (1 in 1.55 emails) while Viruses incident increased 0.1% to 1 in 89.6 emails (1.12%) and Phishing attacks jumped 0.27% to 1 in 170 emails (0.59%), according to threat trends from MessageLabs Intelligence report for September.
